What are the qualifications of a Marriage & Family Therapist?
Marriage and Family Therapists are mental health professionals who are experts in psychotherapy and family systems, licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems. They have graduate training (Masters or Doctorate degrees) and clinical experience. Along with psychiatry, psychology, social work, and psychiatric nursing they are part of the “core” mental health professions.

Marriage and Family Therapy is usually short-term therapy that focuses on relationships and pattern analysis. Sessions focus on specific goals and the search for solutions.
How many sessions should I expect to attend?
Marriage and Family Therapy is usually short-term therapy consisting of an average of 12 solution-focused sessions with a specific goal in mind. That being said, every case is different.
